In this activity, we learn to draw Charmander, a species of Pokemon that has a nice behavior and is mild in manner. It has a flame that constantly burns at the tip of its tail. The bigger the size of the flame the more the power of the anime. The small, dinosaur-like bi-pedal character can be drawn easily thanks to the following step-by-step.
Step 1: Draw 2 overlapping ovals, the lower one bigger than the upper. The latter guide signifies the head while the former stands for the body.
Step 2: 2 ovals are drawn to act as guides for the left leg and the right foot. An arc traverses the body and continues beyond as the tail.
Step 3: Erase the parts of the body that are overlapped by the ovals drawn in the previous step. Draw a circle at the bottom that is the guide for the left foot and 2 slanting lines coming out of the upper part of the body. The right foot is joined to the body by an arc.
Step 4: Draw intersecting horizontal and vertical lines as guides for the face and an oval as the guide for the tail end.
Step 5: 2 eyes are drawn now.
Step 6: Start sketching the head and back of the neck.
Step 7: Detail the face.
Step 8: Sketch the smiling, almost crescent shaped mouth.
Step 9: Draw the triangular teeth.
Step 10: Detail the eye complete with the eyeball. The nostrils are mere points.
Step 11: Erase the head guides. The left hand along with the digits are now given shape.
Step 12: The right hand and the ventral part of the body are drawn now.
Step 13: Erase the guides crossing the body. The left leg bears slightly curvy lines.
Step 14: The left paw has triangular claws.
Step 15: Erase the left leg guides. Now comes the turn to sketch the slightly curvy right leg.
Step 16: Draw the right paw and claws.
Step 17: Erase the right leg guides. Sketch the long tail and an arch to signify the ventral part of the body.
Step 18: Flames come out of the tail.
Step 19: Give a double margin to the end of the flame and the ventral part of the tail. The tail guide is erased.
Step 20: Color the character in shades of your choice.
It can be colored typically in orange with yellow for its underbelly. The flame on the tail looks good in a combination of orange and yellow. However, children are free to hone their creative skills for any color(s) that looks good on it. Little ones are great fans of the Pokemon franchise and this activity is sure to keep their attention for a long time. At least, until they get the perfect shape of the character they are so familiar with.
