The gorilla is a large mammal that resembles humans closely. The deep-set eyes, broad chest and shoulders and the slightly upright gait make it a unique animal to draw. Its body is mostly covered in a thick coat of hair that is generally black. So you know what color to put on it once you are done with the sketch.
Step 1: Draw a few ovals that will act as guides for the head and limbs.
Step 2: Make intersecting lines on the face that also act as guides.
Step 3: Shape the trunk of the animal.
Step 4: Shape the forehead with small curves.
Step 5: Draw the mouth and the beard-like part below it.
Step 6: Make the eyebrows, ear and wrinkle on a cheek.
Step 7: Sketch the wide nose and eyes.
Step 8: Surround the eyes with tiny hair.
Step 9: The back should droop down a little from its guide.
Step 10: Draw the chest to be almost parallel to the back.
Step 11: The left arm is curvy.
Step 12: Same goes for the right arm.
Step 13: The right hind leg is made with an arch and slightly overlapping lines.
Step 14: Start making the left hand.
Step 15: The fingers are just like those of a man.
Step 16: Similarly, sketch the right hand. Note that the thumbs point outwards.
Step 17: The furry right hind leg is made with a pronounced arch and a serrated bottom.
Step 18: Only a part of the left hind leg is visible that is drawn in a similar way.
Step 19: The right foot is drawn. It is stretched out for balance.
Step 20: Mainly the thumb of the left foot is visible.
The large, formidable gorilla is a gift of nature. It is symbolic of our ancestors. You may note that the drawing is largely made with elongated curvy lines and arches. It doesn’t really require a lot of detailing excepting the face.
